El Al, the official airline of Israel
El Al means "To Up" or Up and Away, and it has a history that goes as far back as the State of Israel itself. With its initial fleet of DC-4's acquired in 1949, it flew its first Israel-USA roundtrip on June 25, 1950. El Al continued to operate after the Sinai War of 1956, even when all other airlines ceased service to Israel, and in 1960, transported Adolf Eichmann from Brazil to Israel where Eichman was put on trial and hanged.
