In part 5 of Mr Ben, Emily, the aunt of the two London urchins that he has befriended, visited him at his cottage, and they are getting to know each other. Ben suggestion that Emily might do some field-work to supplement her income seems to her to be a good idea. Emily laughed and said “ I shall rain apples down upon the heads of the gawpers, who dare to stare at my ankles!
