I can only give you very approximate values in American currency, but as a crude yardstick, one can state that during the period covered by these posts, there were 3 to 4 $s to the £ sterling. In fact a slang term for 5/ ( five shillings ) was a “ dollar”. Or if one preferred it, the rhyming slang version: “ Oxford scholar ”.
