Great musicals are
rewritten for each generation. I've never seen the whole musical presented for high school. When I was in high school, our singing group presented only the songs "Corners of the Sky"and "Reprise." The TV version of the musical was delightful. Pippin's part was played by the same actor who played the lead in the TV series "The Great American Superhero" (I forget his name).

My daughter just finished a high school drama run of "Pippin"
Oddly, the local paper hasn't reviewed it......
As a 52 y/o, I interpreted it as being about how our idealism becomes tempered by our experience until we can tell the "players" in our heads "NO!".
By the way, Ben Vereen's part (The Lead Player) was done by a young lady whose parents are from the Phillipines, in what looked like a thin, shiny wetsuit. Bob Fosse might have liked it.
