The way I see it is California will probably not be our final destination, but for now we are happy here. And as screwed as it is, I feel a moral obligation to stay here in case, or rather for when, things go downhill. They are 80, and it won't be long before it all gets to be too much for her to take care of him alone.
What can I say? I'm a fool I guess. Plus, the entire estate is willed to us, and if we are still here when it passes over to us, we'll probably rent the place out, allowing us a little breathing room. Then we will be able to enjoy the ocean and all the entertainmrnt in this area-waterparks, amusement parks, Disney, Aquarium of the Pacific, and Universal are all < 3 hrs away!

Boy, do I know about the....
"just getting caught up again, before something else broadsides you" syndrome

Seriously though, things are tight so maybe there won't be too much to lose by exploring all your options, especially trying to get away from the inlaws from hell!

Now that you jogged my memory...Yes! I remember those underwater dwellers, the Snorks!!
An obvious rip off of the Smurfs with aquatic variations.
Do you remember the 'Silver Hawks'? From space?

That is excellent advice! I am feeling more and more inclined as time goes
by to choose a career. The only problem is I really don't want to leave my kids with someone else. I am currently trying with all my might to get my mom to move out here. I am so overprotective, I can hardly imagine leaving my kids with strangers.
I am hoping that John's perseverence will pay off soon, because were he to promote to Assistant Manager, he would make much better money and be able to transfer stores, at which time we indeed will move or buy property here, either of which is ok with me, as we are in a nice part of California.
I don't feel sad, I feel discouraged...and I worry about the kids, and John. I'm one of those people that can happily decorate an entire dwelling with fabric, a hot glue gun and milkcrates!!

I'm really sorry to hear of your plight. It saddens me cause it feels helpless to change anything but there are things you can do. Move again. Someplace completely different. One or both of you enroll in a trade or technical school. There are many different grants and programs to help you afford it. You're struggling anyway, you might as well be working toward a better future. I hope things improve.
