Not sure I agree, and in any case, each situation is unique yet equally tragic:
Not sure I agree that suicide is the ultimate violence against those we love (or 'should') and/or those who love us in return (or 'should'). I am thinking -- to a great deal of people who reach the conclusion that death is preferable to life and suicide a viable option -- that other people's potential pain and suffering simply isn't in the picture. Often, too, I suspect the thought is that THEY WILL BE BETTER OFF WITHOUT ME. In a twisted logic, even people who make poor choices do it thinking they are making the best one available. And therein lies the true tragedy.

To quote an old Protestant pastor friend....
"Life happens." (His version - the G-rated version of a very popular saying - is the one I choose to quote here to keep it family-friendly.) One of the hardest things for some people to realize is precisely that - that life really does happen. You can't let the unexpected stuff throw you - you plan for it as best you can, and when it comes along (as it inevitably will), you smile and drag out the preparations rather than committing suicide over the issues presented by the unexpected. You'd be amazed what you can live through.

Hear hear

We're here for ya. Unless she was delusional, she was angry too, and suicide is also the ultimate violence against the ones you are around.

Whenever I get stuck or down, one of the unsung quotes of Robert Fulgham comes to mind (if I can remember it straight):

"Sometimes the only thing we can do is stand there like a donkey in the rain and just take it".

(You know, it always eventualy stops raining, right? But we're still donkeys. Thoroughbreds can race like the wind, but when it comes to the steep spots and the rain, gimme a donkey any day!).
