I wear combat boots
but shoes would probably be better

From Bunny

What bothers me is when I see fit cops (they usually look fit around here) wearing what look like dress shoes. How are they supposed to chase criminals?

I know it's nice to wear an official-looking uniform, but would some athletic shoes really be so bad?

Nope, no gym
and they wouldn't use it anyway

I've never seen fat out of shape cops

in real life... all the ones I've encountered were actually quite hunky and buff... I just thought that was  a stereotype.

Isn't there a gym in that there precint?  There should be... with time to use it.

HI Sarge, I wrote a blog about writing laziness and
I know i wrote a bit more when I was younger. I have tried to take up tai chi by following instructional tapes one of which got stuck in my VCR and now I do tai chi like Woody Allen, but my writing is as lazy as ever. I will work on it.

You have touched on tomorrow's topic.  Nice lead in.

I think that a cop who takes good care of themself is
better equipped to use their judgement on all levels. What excess weight can do to judgement in a crisis situation is not very positive. I have lost 50 pounds since last August and for each pound lost I truly believe my ability to think and use judgement has improved markedly.

I think the two (mind and body) are definitely linked. An obese person may not necessarily cut corners or do lousy work. But, if a person is terribly out of shape, it is hard to figure how he or she is able to deliver peak performance throughout the day, simply because the heart may be willing, but the the flesh is weak.

When I was in better shape during my younger days, I find that I have no problems remaining sharp and alert for the entire day. Sadly, now I tire much more easily... Have not been exercising much for the past few years.

Thanks for the posts. I shall get back to exercising regularly.

Whambo
More and more departments are going to some sort of fitness test for a minimal level.  I think it's a good way to go.  Sex marathon may be a little too progressive and I really don't want to think about most cops even having sex.  They aren't all as good looking as you and I.

I like that theory.  I'll remember that.

Sarge,

I have seen these young thugs scale 10 ft. fences as if they were grasshoppers, and for me, I am sorry there is just no way.  I will broadcast a direction of travel.  But I agree, that it is horrific to see some of these out-of-shape cops.  SOME jurisdictions, but not many I think, require officers to pass an annual fitness requalification along with their weapons requalification.

I think we all should be required to have a sex marathon at least once a week, to make sure we stay in shape (and happy!).

Luv,

Whammie

A dear friend and I have a theory. We believe that if a person takes an elevator or escalator to go up one floor, that they will not be successful. She has met one exception, and I haven't met any. I believe laziness transcends all levels.
