monotheism breeds passivity?
That's interesting, your comparing black and white Christianity. I never thought about it much, except that I've always loved black gospel music and I've never much enjoyed white Christian hymns. For both black and white, though, "God" is an entity who is required to "save" them, in one way or another, and that's one thing that bothers me about Christianity (and other monotheistic religions). I like Buddhism (and Taoism) because they're atheistic. They're about about self-reliance, doing it yourself, saving yourself, etc.
