Forgive me
I saw the movie a while ago and had forgotten that scene. I agree, of course: Dumbledore is always aware of what he is doing, not oblivious to others' pain. I think they went a bit too far to get a laugh there. But I do think Dumbledore in general is more light-hearted than Harris portrayed him to be.

As I saw it,
Dumbledore was a was and kindly person who occasionally used appropriate humour to lighten a tense situation. The "real" Dumbledore would never have banged on Ron's cast in the way that he is shown doing in the movie. The "real" Dumbledore was careful that his levity was harmless. That was what I objected to in the movie --- that this Dumbledore did things that would have been out-of-character for the real Dumbledore.

Good review
I liked the movie, and actually, I think it was the same screenwriter (Steve Kloves) who adapted this one. I agree with most of your points, though, especially that the plot was choppy and not well explained. I think an assumption was made that viewers would have read the book, and it's never good to make assumptions. However, on one point, I disagree... Dumbledore is often portrayed in the books as slightly silly, despite his power and authority (the first scene with him at Hogwarts in book one is an example), and while I liked the Harris version better in terms of general nature and appearance, I think the character of Dumbledore here was more true to the character in the book, but could have been expanded on a bit more.

I think you should have written the screen adaptation.

Agreed with RAD
and I saw it both big screen and BIG screen (IMAX).
Maybe they ought to wait for all the books to come out, recast the whole lot (or do it digitally), and then make a giant trilogy like Lord of the Rings?
(And WHEN will they come out with "The Hobbit"?).
(I'm going, I'm going.....
