I WONDER HOW many other stories like there are around the U.s>, around the world.
corporate American lacks responsibility, looks only to the bottom line.
to do people like this is a greater sin than a lot of things I can think of.

In New Orleans
We have the highest incidence of schlderma (I know I am not spelling it right). It is an extremely, extremely rare sking disease, fatal, where the connective tissue hardens or something equally horrible. I personally know of TWO women who have this disease. That is....it just does not happen. One of the women (wife of husband's coworker) recently died of it. It was agonizing and terrible. Now, the interesting thing is that most of these cases originate in what we call "Cancer Alley" down here. It is the stretch of Southeastern Louisiana where all the chemical plants do their thing. That area, mostly around Morgan City, has more deaths from cancer and odd diseases, including Lupus, which I myself was diagnosed with after living down here 14 years. In Gentilly, in the poorest black neighborhood I can think of in New Orleans (so you know that it is poor), a chemical plant has an "accident" about every two years, forcing the residents out of their homes until the "cloud" dissipates. This "cloud" is always harmless. Yeah.

I used to work in the
welfare office in Baltimore and it's likely that I'll be going back to that job soon. So I'm particularly interested in your stories.
