I remember reading about a woman who had killed her baby with another household appliance right after I had my daughter. It was the first time I had heard of such a thing.

I don't know if the laundry mom was trying to kill her child or not, but you'd think someone would have seen some sort of sign that the woman wasn't an appropriate mother before it reached that point.

I don't know if a mommy license is the answer though. I got pregnant at the age of 18; I doubt I would have been considered a good mom at the time. Still, something needs to happen to keep kids safe.

First, I totally agree there are cases when children would be better off separated from the parents.  It is infuriating hearing of children being forced to visit their abuser in prison just because that person happens to be a parent, as if it isn't bad enough they were forced to put up with the abuse.

Second, in Missouri, parents divorcing are ordered by the court to go through parenting classes before their divorce is granted.  True, it would be more useful to order the parenting classes before having children, but at least it is a step in the right direction.

AMEN!
Mummy, you have said it! I often wonder why certain people have children--especially when I can't understand when these same people haven't been "Darwinized" out of society themselves.

There are so many horrible parents out there. Too bad the ones who have the potential to be great parents often don't get the chance.
