That's what I don't understand. . .

How, in the face of blatant lies, people will believe God speaks through Bush.  When Clinton lied, he was condemned for it, and it involved his personal life not the way he governed the country.  Not a nice or good thing, true, but it didn't have the far-reaching and massive effects the acts of this president do.  Why would the messenger of God lie? Or, if he didn't lie, why would the messenger of God be quite a bit on the stupid side, so empty that he didn't try to get the correct information?   It doesn't make sense, but then, over the years, I've noticed the ranting of religious zealots never does.  They just try to shout you down with repetition (see the Molly Ivins hate post).  Reason and logic are never part of the process.

It gives us all a lot to deal with.

I'm with you on this one. It scares the hell out of me.
I'm a believer, but I must be one of the few that sees the danger in the us vs. them policy that the US has adopted. If the one true God is speaking through Bush then I may have to look into resorts in Hell cause I just can't swallow what Bush is feeding me. Great post!

If it is for political gain, yes
but what if they really mean what they say. Why is that so hard to fathom? And speaking of political doom and religion, Kerry heretical "personal opposition" may play in head-up-the ass MASS. but many Catholics in the rest of the country went to the polls to vote against him. New England liberal Irish Catholicism doesn't have a lot of appeal outside it's little sphere. The orthodox Catholic reaction vote is something the pundits never count on.

You've really got it here

I think the politicans that claim religious piety for political gain will eventually doom themselves.  I really do.

molly who?
I don't think that's what Bush meant when he said that. I took that to mean that he regards himself as a temple of the Holy Spirit as do all Christians; that he tries to live his life in a way that disposes him to receiving the Word. Read the whole speech.
The reason you fear a takeover by the religious right is because you don't understand what they believe. Cut the hysteria.

sometimes comments should just stand alone and everybody should read them and see what kind of a mind writes such.

there are times
reading what the cons say and looking at my own beliefs

that I think God speaks a whole lot more through me than God does through them.
'
especially if they believe god speaks through someone.

He talks to all of us in different ways.  You are just too busy spewing hatred to listen.  I also noticed you never acknowledge any comments.  Now doesn't that make me wonder about you!!

It's easy to accept someone as God's spokesperson when his messages coincide with your beliefs.  If I was to start saying God picked me as His spokesperson, I doubt very highly that many "religious" types would be even look at me.
