StraightF, They are very sensitive to this kind of thing.
When my boss's wife was killed in a car accident back in 1998, all the dogs in my kennel at work (especially the dogs that lived there with us) were extremely quiet until all of a sudden, they all started to howl. It was a bit eerie, but kinda cool.

Dogs can be pretty sensitive
Indeed dogs are pretty sensitive. When i lost my Dad, one of our dogs stayed out of the house for the whole day

Thanks, Quirky, I will...I have.
And, yes, I know I'll eventually get better but I just wish I knew
when it would start to not hurt so bad.

Rachel, yes, it felt a bit weird to receive her ashes. I have never done
that before. I didn't get closure, but I did get finality. Does that make sense? I really didn't need closure because she passed away in my arms, but knowing she was really 100% phyically gone gave me finality. It hurt. I cried. I miss her deeply. But I still remind myself I did the right thing.

Word, it is lessening for her a bit more and more everyday.
Now, her only real source of jealousy for attention is my squirrel, Stanley! (But he won't be here for more than another few months.)

MiaE, thanks for sharing that. There is nothing wrong with putting
a pet in an urn! Some just don't understand; that's just them. As far as another dog, read my comment to canine.

canine, I know Stonci would love to have another dog around, but
I'm just not ready. I've had offers from a few clients but I'm just not
there yet. If Stonci wasn't recovering from her sadness and loss, then maybe I would. But, she is doing okay right now and so I'm not going to pursue it. At least not for a while.

Tapsel, no I haven't. Should I? Will my copy get all teared up
and snotty, too? I'm assuming so! Thanks for the tip, though. I'll check it out.

erinlove, I know. It is strange how some don't have any or much feeling
for animals the way many others do. I look at it this way, some people just love certain things with a passion, like cars, collecting things, or gardening. Then, there are others that can take it or leave it when it comes to that passion. I guess that's what makes us all unique.

Poor baby, that just breaks my heart. Hopefully she'll feel better soon. This is one of the only reasons I'm glad that Charlie and Montana loathe each other. At least Charlie won't go through that depression when Montana passes.

Spitfire,
I hope
you are slowly snapping back, too. I know it will take time, but you'll get there. Give Stonci a hug from Aunt Quirky.

Awww!
Poor Stonci! I feel for her!
When we put one of our dogs down when I was younger I was sure our other was going to die of heartache. It was bad. She finally snapped out of it about three weeks later. I really felt for her.
How did you feel when you got the ashes? Did it bring some closure to things?

Such a beautiful post...love is truly a universal thing.
I read your previous post, that's a beautiful urn. I put my kitty in a urn when he died...people think I'm strange for doing it...but I guess they just don't understand. Nice to see others have the same compassion and love for their animals.
Poor Stonci....looks lonely. Will you get another dog?

Spitfire - Did you ever read the book "Where The Red Fern Grows" or
see the movie? Your post here has reminded me of that. I couldn't even pass on the book, it was too messed up with tears and snot.

It's so unbelievable how human animals can be. You can see their little personalities shining through. Day in and day out I can't fathom why some people don't see this or don't care.
