And the bigger darlings too...their parents.
We had a junior high school principal who made national news about three years back. He looked at the acheivment tests, mandated by the state, and sorted them by race, also included by mandate of the state, and saw that there was a correlation between race and achievement scores way beyond statistical relevance.
He called for meetings on four nights one week; one for parents of those kids identifying themselves as "Caucasian", one for African- American, one for Hispanic, and one for Asian/Pacific Islander. It was made explicitly clear that you could attend as many of these sessions as you wanted. Each one was conducted strictly from the same powerpoint presentation and the same written speech. Then parents were broken into groups and brainstormed as to what the problems facing their kids was, and what to do about it.
(I will add that this principal, Mr. Moore, was an is African American).
I attended, it was a very honest and thorough presentation which would have done justice to a courtroom.
He knew the chances for backlash.
Within two months they took him and "promoted" him to presiding over the most "broke-down", violent HS in the system. His successor quietly drawered his work and pressed on.
