Here are some more lyrics to help you out
If nothing in life is turning you on
And every one of your friends
All seem to be gone
Just start yourself a hummin
Remember that the good times are coming
Life is a celebration
Don't waste your invitation
Hang those tears on the line.

found a lyric page
but that doesn't help yet
having to checkout every song individually -- takes time.

I'd have to cheat again
and look on the internet
I remember calendar girl -- that's late 50's
and i remember handy man
if it's neither of those then i'll have to cheat.

Don't know the writer Westwend
I don't think the performer wrote his own songs though so it must have been someone else. When you said Neil Diamond, you got half the perfomers name right.

Nope Not Donnie Osmond
Not sure if this singer ever was a teen idol, but if he was it would have been when he first became popular in the 60s. Would have been too old by '75 when this song came out.

I thought that David Cassidy performed in a stage production of
Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, or something, in recent years....not that that is the answer to your question, but I think he has done a musical!

Not from a musical I don't think
As far as I know David Cassidy never did a cover of it.

no! no! no!
hold on -- I think it's from HAIR
of course david had some -- girls liked it.
don't know why -- wait a minute -- about the same time the cowsills did -- let's see ---
they did the title song from HAIR
5th Dimension did let the sun shine in
some guy with black durly hair did -- one
then there was good morning starshine
circa 1970
cowsills were a neat group -- a family -- all ages
don't get me started
