I'm thinking that Westwend is using the term know like it is used to say we know a person. And I think in that sense, he is right. It would be hard to know God like one's brother when God is everything. However, like you said earlier Uni, knowing the character of "God" is quite possible.

West is no doubt writing his rebutal post to these comments as we speak.

West, impossible to the one who has hardened his heart against
Him yes, but not for me.

'impossible' to know God
myself and millions of other Christians must be suffering from acute schizophrenia and delusion I guess.

it is impossible
to know god

lol, well I certainly don't think He has a white robe and beard either
that's a little silly. But that is clearly a problem many have, they try to humanize Him and that is impossible, anyone who knows God intimitely can attest to that.
Thanks

I agree. And you stated it well. Knowing the character of "God" (if you didn't know, I use quotations because I don't believe "God" is a person in a white robe with a beard who rules over his charges, like many do) is certainly possible. I'm actually writing a bit on this for my next blog.

sann, one may not be able to know God (no quotation marks)
as a person knows another person, but it is certainly possible to know Gods' (again, no quotation marks) character. It is possible to move beyond "religion" and achieve an actual RELATIONSHIP with God. This is done from close, intimate contact, the Holy Spirit, prayer, communion (in it's deepest meaning), worship and being open to His will in our lives.

I agree. It's a mind-blowing experience. One the cognitive, rational mind can't grasp.

We can know God…simply by acting “like” God. This means letting go of everything…when you let go of everything, all you can say is, “I AM, because I AM.” What more is there to know?

I agree that we are all one with "God". And I agree that by knowing ourselves better, we will know "God" better. But I'm not so sure that we have the capabilty to know "God" completely.

That's pretty much what the mystics say. We can experience "God", but I'm not sure we can fully know "God". We'er too limited. Even if we practice mystical traditions, that will only take us so close.

I'm with you. I think we can know some of "God". One could have a personal relationship with Yeshua/Jesus too, like you say. And that is knowing part of "God".

Religious Science teaches
that we are all one with God. So the way to get to know God is to get to know yourself.

We can't 'know' God because the thing we use to know stuff isn't good enough. Animals can know themselves and know the habits of things lower on the foodchain than themselves, but to know higher things means they have to BE higher.

can't know entirely

know jesus -- have a personal relationship -- etc.

yeah, well . . .

god is all around us  --- i'm thinking of that song by the Trogs -- "Love is all around u s."

It's written on the wind

it's everywhere I go

Love is all around us

etc.

okay -- back to the thing that god is that 'in which we live and move and have our being."

we contact god every day -- god brushes our beings with every waft of wind -- every breath we take -- every raindrop and bird singing and things living and dying -- and people we love and hate and argue with and hug and punch and get irritated with and every keystroke we make -- and every movement of our muscles -- every sneeze

if there's a spirit at all, it's the spirit of the Universe -- it's all that flows through and around us -- we don't speak with tongues or even minds -- but with something almost akin to feelings.

we don't talk anyway -- we listen.

and that's hard.

looks like a book

The Bible teaches we can know God through the Holy Spirit
upon being born again, it is one of the fundamental truths of Christianity. I have a close relationship with the Almighty God.
