Making an Enemy of Culture for the Sake of God
I enjoyed this piece on art and culture. The struggle between encountering the beauty and wisdom of God in Creations of human beings (art) and of God (nature), versus the notion that we must turn our backs on these in order to more fully appreciate the life of the spirit has been a long-standing historical struggle. As you suggest, art and intellect should not be interpreted as enemies of a spiritual life, even though some art and some intellects have a decidedly materialistic and mechanistic outlook. Thanks for posting. As time allows, I intend to read some of your other posts.
