As to your first comment, I agree that it was probably John seeing this. But I don't know that that changes anything. He is an advanced soul who is capable of seeing through the current reality into a different reality. But I think this is possible for anyone willing to "hear with their ears" and "see with their eyes". And I love your analogy of the curtain on a stage in a play being used as the play's reality. It's a great image that explains the ease with which realities can change.

yes is the answer
we just have to see
the reality in which we think we live is not all that real.
there is a departure from the real.
human society does that.
places a veil or a vail between the real and the beholder
like one of those scenes painted on a curtain as a background in a stage play -- that's what is perceived as real and yet behind it is the true reality.
we gaze upon a reality painted for us by previous generations.
if we don't question it then we cannot begin to see the true reality.
again like Plato's picture of people sitting, gazing at a wall on which shadows are cast and believing that that is the reality.
a person must be willing to seek and explore and that means leaving the comfortable accepted behind. the new world will be uncomfortable at first, but it will yield riches that the old world never could.

on the baptism thing
i thinki it's John where what happens is that John the Baptist makes the pronouncement that he has seen this and heard god speak.
this explains a lot don't you think?
