Thanks, Matt_Vecere,
for putting our donation (government, not private) in perspective.  And as for your viewpoint on Dubya the Facilitator, I second your emotion.

A stingy gov't? Yes!
As an American, I am disgusted by my leader's misguided and callous response to this international crisis. Only by shame was he smoked out of his vacation time in Texas--three days after the devastation! His original pledge of $15 million was a slap in the face to the world, including we the people. Our economy strips the third world of their resources to afford us a lifestyle unimaginable to the mass of humanity. In relation to GDP, the current pledge of $35 million--20 of which is in loans--is 0.14%. By far the lowest of industrialized nations. Nations of a fraction of our GDP are even topping our leader's pledge dollar for dollar. We have a unique opportunity here to begin to repair our relations with the world--especially with the muslim world where the brunt of the suffering lies. But it appears our jackass of a leader has chosen to further inflame the hatred of our country. And, by doing so, put every American at greater risk.

Hey, mills,

it's not that much on the scale of things, but it is something and more is promised.  The problem is finding the money in a war-devastated budget.  Still, when you consider that the U.S. always seems to find money to force "freedom" down other's throats, then being able to find a few dollars for a humanitarian effort shouldn't be that hard, huh?

Thanks for reading, mills.  Glad to know there are a few internationals on Blogit.

Concidering you GNP, is $35 million that much ? The good old Brits chucked $30 million in and we're about the size of downtown LA ;-)
