The question I would ask is "Why do we need a purpose?" It seems to me that having a greater purpose is something we desire so strongly that I am led to not believe we have one just on the basis that it appears to serve to make us feel better about our lives. Why should I need a purpose to live a happy life? That's the question that always drives me mad.

Unidentified Hacker, Man's purpose on earth is to love and serve God.
Now if you do not believe in God, then substitute the word mankind. Now you have: "Man's purpose on earth is to love and serve mankind".

Not too shabby, unless you do not believe in mankind. Then you go the other way with it.

I think you've done a great job with this post, UH.
I for one found it compelling, and very analytical. Very much "your style" which I enjoy. Why question this? It's something we're enjoying!

UH..
I was talking about an external purpose. In educating others you help them deal with someone maybe a bit kinder than they would have in ignorance. That is a divine purpose if I ever heard one.

Perhaps you are correct. I should have specified however that the purpose I was speaking of is an external purpose. We all have an internal purpose; the reason why we get up in the morning and live out lives. The external purpose however is more along the lines of a divine purpose; whether or not we as a whole were put here for a specific reason. That seems to be one of those unanswerable questions.

UH...
People often wonder their purpose as you put it. Maybe yours is to educate other people about what you're going through. After all, I didn't really know that much about it and how it affects someone until I started reading you. That's a big purpose right there. My purpose... I'm here for comedic relief!!
