I've been told the same thing. And boy, some days I feel much older than others.

I was told by a parapsychologist that I have an "old soul".
and yes, sometimes my soul "feels old".

I would agree with that. It's probably not linear. And thanks for adding John 10.

I agree to a degree. I think that if everyone excepted reincarnation as a real part of spiritual growth, it would help us live today by helping us to understand some of our fears and phobias, as well as some of our unique gifts.

I still doubt that reincarnation is linear, like rungs of a ladder...
Anyway, here's another New Testament chapter-and-verse: " My Father loves me because I lay down my life and I pick it up again of my own will." John 10: 17-18 or possibly, 14, depending which translation you read.
(And who do you suppose Elisha was practicing to be?)

Ancient Souls
I believe some souls are returned for a purpose of spiritual growth. Not all souls do I believe are reincarnated but some for a higher purpose. I believe this earth is a school for the soul and what we go threw matures the soul. I belive some souls are Ancient. It says in the bible that in the end time. Our ancestors will be returning to claim the inheritance God gave them. I believe that. I feel I myself lived in other lifetimes before.

Good question and well reasoned article.
Whether reincarnation happens or not, though, is unimportant. What is important is how we lead the life we have this time, with whatever talents, skills, "luck", etc. that come our way. It makes no difference if we were the greatest last time, or that we will be the greatest next time. It's what we do with what we have.
Would it matter if I was Charles Darwin (for example) last time out, and a crippled child in africa this time? I don't think so. As the crippled child, on the edge of death, I have something to contribute. As Darwin, I would have had something to contribute. Not the same things, obviously, but both are making a difference.
What would the use of knowing that I had been Darwin, when I can't influence thought patterns in the same way?
As I said, reincarnation, as an event, is unimportant, just a speculation that perhaps makes some people feel more important to themselves. We don't need to know!

You're right. But wouldn't knowing that reincarnation happens help to live a better present life?

one additional thing, though
even considering reincarnation probably the most logical of what might be after this life,
we still don't know for sure.
we just have to wait until we get there don't we?
and maybe that's just as well -- to dwell on some future that we don't really know about is to pass up the present
we still have to live in the present

I agree. It just makes sense. Though, as you say, there will be arguments.

it makes sense to me too
but you will get arguments
to me, the function of reincarnation is to allow the "soul" to improve -- to be built into a being suitable for passage to another existence.
and there are hints even in the accepted canon.
where Yeshua talks about "hell fire" where the "worm dieth not" and the "fire is not quenched" -- that is Gehenna, or the Valley of Hinnom, where trash was thrown. It was explained once that the "worm" refers to maggots, which don't die, but morph into flies -- and the fire certainly is not quenched, it is left to burn. It can go out by itself.
But, more, to me -- this refers to dereliction -- being a derelict -- look around you -- you will see derelicts.
then there's Paul's statement that "it's God's will that all be saved." How can this happen without reincarnation?
