Thanks Editormum
I went to the pet store and basically decided to spoil the fish like I do my cats ..I had a tank for a goldfish at home ..but didnt' seem it would work well for a beta ..so I got a little beta starter kit thing ..it had a fish tank ...food for beta's ....water clearing solution and all that ..then I got him some dried worms as a treat ..he really seems super happy now that he has moved in. I also ensured that he had a nice locking lid so the cats don't think of trying to go fishing ..though if you've read the mouse post ..my cats arent' exactly normal. LOL

Some notes on Bettas
- All colorful bettas are male. The female betta doesn't look at all like a betta; she looks more like a bait minnow, except she isn't shiny. She also usually has to be special-ordered from the pet store.
- You need to change your betta's water once a week, making sure to dechlorinate and add appropriate supplements to the water. I like "Bowl Buddy" and Betta Bowl Essentials.
- Feed your betta at least twice a day with a good Betta food; I use Betta Bio Gold.
- Any name you like is good. I named my yellow betta Sundrop, but my kids call him Winnie the Pooh. I once had a male and female; the male was deep lavender and I named him Nicholas; the female was drab camo, and I named her Alexandra. If he's red, Carmine, Rose (pronounced row-zay), or Scarlatti would be interesting choices.
- They will tell you that the bettas in bowls with plants atop will feed off the roots. NOT TRUE. You still have to feed them. Please don't starve your fishie to death.
