Definitely
No matter how clever I think I am, If the article/story reads better without my own percieved bits of brilliance that need cutting, I promptly drop them move on without a fuss.

With a heavy heart I edit when
what I think is great has just gotta go. Sometimes I get silly and store stuff someplace...just in case.

I agree with Quirky, it's a sign that it MIGHT be overdone. But I'd never get rid of it. If you like it, save it! Keep a notebook and use it again in another bit of writing where it won't overshadow the whole thing...

I would have to say, that is MAY be a sign it needs to be cut, not necessarily a sure sign. There's always a chance that you like it because it's actually good!
