Thank you sooooooooooooooooooooo much!  The people on the Grammar Lady website were divided on the subject when I asked them about it years ago.  But it still grates on my last nerve whenever someone says "try and."

That's a new one for me...just add one more  grammar item to my list! (I am slightly OCD about such things)

Another one that bugs me is
They called Police, instead of they called the police. I agree with your thoughts on this one.
