- Go to Parents, How Much Will You Pay Per Hour For Childcare?
Childcare workers are poorly paid overall
Considering our children are our most precious gift it never ceases to amaze me that college educated child care workers are so poorly paid.
In Canada, near a major city like Toronto, a graduate of the Early Childhood Education college program can expect to start out making $12/hr(CDN) for working full time in a good quality privately run day care. This is full time, caring for, nuturing and building the self esteem of the adults of tomorrow. The parents are charged about $250/week.
My daughter makes $12/hr working part-time as a cashier in a grocery store while she goes to school !!!
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE????
Jemms, this group needs to get unionized

I found this for you
I hope it helps: According to the National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC), pinning down a nationwide average for home daycare costs is difficult. Many providers charge very little, especially if they're close friends or neighbors of the families whose children they're caring for, but some may charge as much as daycare centers or more. Debbie Moore, vice president of the NAFCC suggests that parents contact a resource and referral service in their area (try the Child Care Aware hotline at 800/424-2246 for one near you); in most cases they can give you a range of local prices. But if you're looking for a number, home daycare tends to cost around $700 per month for infants and about $500 per month for toddlers--or about $6,000 to $8,400 per year (less in rural areas, more in big cities), according to Anne Mead, executive director of the Early Care and Education Training Institute.

Amazing!
We had friends that paid $200.00 a week for child care. $500.00 sounds like a very low amount for 40 hours a week. My kids are all older so I don't deal with day care, but I know its not cheap.

Actually that's $500/mo for a 50 hour week. (parents have to drive to work, count for lunch break, drive back, etc.) So it's more like $2.50/hr. And then the state limits the care providers to something like 5 or 6 kids. So they could make about $15/hr. if they have the max number of kids. Still not a very good wage, and the actual "care" may go down as the number of kids goes up.
On the other hand, how much is the parent making per hour? And how much do they have to pay for rent and basic living expenses? So many (especially single) parents can't even afford the $500 without giving up some necessary other items (food/decent housing...) I'm not saying that the kids aren't worth more, just that it isn't always possible.

That is a good price for group childcare
but if they want thier kids taken care of by someone dedicated to them, they need to either add room and board or double the money.
