Ah,
My idea is that evil is something that reduces the overall level of happiness in the world. Judging an act as evil is difficult though, because the person might not have intended something that way, might have been overcome by emotion or instinct... and judgement is aways objective, by definition; one man's evil could be another man's norm....

Arch, my belief is that evil is not substantiative, that is to say...
it is the absence of substance, the absence of good in particular.

sometimes I think the most
goody goodies are the evil ones...all that saintliness and holier than thou... blech. That said, those who don't know me real well would think I was a goody goody too. Well, I guess I might be now. Sigh.

My Cracked Definition of Sin:
A sin is something you really enjoy doing that someone else abhors. NOTE: You are only in trouble for sinning if that "someone else" is a deity.

card playing on Sunday is evil
according to some.
eating meat on Fridays (whoops-that changed)
evil is in the eye of the definer(s) sometimes -- those who decide what is good and evil -- then adherents believe them.
my basic definition: evil is harm; harm is evil
allowing harm is evil.

How true, Ariala . . . .
. . . and that got me to thinking, and, of course, writing! Thanks for the inspiration!

This is why I chose to let the dictionary define it and then ask people if
they agreed or disagreed with those parameters...I do think some people stretch the boundaries of "evil" more than others...and some rituals and cultures embrace what we might call "evil," while others reject it entirely.
