Thanks Marshallengraved. I will. My work has been published but I would love to have the luxury again of a writing job. It would be nice not having to try to sell work but only have to sell ideas

Go for it!
You need to go for it. Put together your best pieces in your portfolio and go in there with confidence and honesty. Your passion for writing will be evident. Don't be afraid to tell them what you can do and that you will produce quality work. Best wishes to you!

Someone said once to a young thespian who agonized over getting parts:
"You an actor? So ACT , then, awreddy".
Same for writing. Might not get published, might ricochet for a while, but you
are
a
writer.

L.E.Gant, you are absolutely right about that. I can put together a strong portfolio but it is still going to be slightly different from most so it really a matter of whether my face fits

Feature writing is what most freelancers would love to do.
As for getting the job, probably all you'd need to do is stack your resume up with articles you have written - a portfolio is more impressive than the fanciest diplomas and sheepskins.

As I've been watching the farmers plough their Spring soil here in Iowa, these words have been speaking to me in my heart and mind... "Break up your unplowed ground." I just found that verse in Jeremiah and it's in reference to the letting go of idols... There's also a verse from that same prophet which says, "For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper and defend you, plans to give you a future and a hope..."

Wiley, thank you. This time I really believe it is possible but then I am also aware of the political nature of such things
