The name doesn't bother me at all. God isn't about words and terms
The real turn off is sometimes the show itself, and the current "scandal"!

David1Spirit -- You are right, but the point was they wanted American to be addicted to the show, and I guess they achieved their purpose, but the name itself turned me off from the very beginning.

I don't think the intention of the shows producers was to create an "idol"
To make that person a religious figure, like the Golden calf. They are just using an already overused term.
They could have called it "American Hero" for all I care. Again, words are really meaningless.
It's what's in the soul that counts!
