Being in charge for the sake of being in charge has its pitfalls
And it's nice to see it catch up to them.

Yep.
For some reason, some people just have this weird "need" to exercise whatever power they get in ways that make them feel they're "in charge".

I was fired from a job once by a new general manager, all because I had thrown away a slip of paper with a phone number on it. I was supposed to call the customer, and when I did there was no answer. So since I had the number in the file, which the GM had taken, I threw the slip away. I figured I'd get the file back and call again later. The GM, it seems, called the customer while I was out to lunch, and their grandmother answered. Apparently she said she'd been there all day, never left. I got back a while later and was fired on the spot. For lying.

A few days later, after I was gone, a coworker who had gotten the file was closing the deal, and the customer asked where I was. He told them the short version, and they told him their grandmother lives next door and has dementia, that she probably just heard the phone and went over and answered as she often did.

I went back to the GM with the news, and he said he understood. But he couldn't re-hired me, because that would "undermine his authority". Six months later he was arrested for fraud, grand larceny and embezzlement -- from the company!

Some people just have to be "in charge". Yep. I know what you mean.

And that's what he was doing with her, playing with her emotions
I did offer to go break his legs if it would make her feel better. She said to wait to see what his answer was today. =)

Thank goodness Success...
...what an awful way to manage! Some people just let their authority go to their heads and are jackasses. Playing with someone's emotions like that is just cruel. I was feeling so bad half way through your post but glad it has a happy ending! Enjoy tomorrow!!
