That is a good way to put it. Religion IS an excuse for many to not honor faith.

Yeah, we do. It's unfortunate that we give that kind of power away.

You're right about words having power for some.

Faith is about relationship with God and others.

not religion.

Religion seems to be man's excuse for not honoring faith.

sannhet
great post. our state of being reflects how deeply we depend on words and images to make ourselves feel secure. for most, for anyone to question them is like threatening their lives. we all know what happens next, don't we?

Oh, how true!
We are, most of us, seeking the same God whatever we call Him. Those who fight and injure each other in the name of religion, well some of them are fighting because of the misunderstandings and the belief that what they believe is the one true thing to believe and for others to believe in something else, for some reason, frightens them and so they strike out, but those who start the fighting in the first place, I'm not sure that religion had any part in it.  No, I think that many of those who start the fighting in the first place are more interested in lining their own pockets and are monetarily  gaining in some way or they gain in power or something entirely that has nothing to do with religion.

Some people believe so much in the power of words themselves
that to them, pani, jal and water must be three different things.  And when they hear that there is only one water, there is no water but water, and it is called water, and "I am Water, Thy Water: Thou Shalt Have No Water But Me," perhaps they fear to disturb something so absolute by calling it Pani, or Jal...
