thank you Rame
if you get my point -- it's that much of Chrisianity defines the criteria for entering Heaven. The different criteria exclude much of the rest of Christianity.
They will say these are God's criteria -- however, we are then left with at least two sets of criteria that exclude each other.
Aye, there's the rub -- if one of these is right, then those adhering to the other will not enter Heaven.
We need to set a new set of criteria for Salvation.
Redefine heaven, because the standard vision is one created in medieval times without a whole lot of support (the King James renderings come from this set of medieval beliefs).
In order for one to set one's house on rock, one must move out of the house on sand -- leave the old behind entirely and start with an entirely new and clean foundation.

Empty,
I'm sorry, I have to disagree with you here. We may not all believe the same things but any Christian or anyone else who is living what they truly believe in and with love in their hearts is going to Heaven. God is love, itself. All we have to do is tell Him we are sorry and mean it, and He will forgive us. An all loving God would not ever cast those who truly love Him, who are trying to live according to His will, into hell. In fact, He doesn't cast anyone into hell. If we go to hell, we are casting ourselves in there by our rejection of God. I think you have some very interesting viewpoints and they are certainly good food for thought.

Painter -
It's all about the still small voice within. Unfortunately, the addicitions of this world keep most of us from hearing the voice.

there is a holy guiding voice within every one of us.

what takes us away from that is our surroundings, our upbringing, our own beastly nature.

many can't seem to find that holy guiding voice.

what we need to do is get them to look for it.

that sounds reasonable
and peaceful. Look to the voice within and be guided.

if you listen to all these people, cantey, yes it is frightening

you don't know which way to turn

but

if you close them out and just live your life

believe in Salvation -- believe that others who are truly faithful also are saved.

then there  is no fear

right?

that is perfect love.

Empty Handed Painter

Someone told me a story once...

"...and as a "minister in training" I went door to door asking individuals two questions.  1.)  When you die, will you go to heaven?  2.)  If you get to the pearly gates and St. Peter asks what you did on Earth to deserve to live in the Kingdom of God -- what would you answer?  Only one person answered me "Yes, I'm going to heaven."  and when I asked him what he'd tell St. Peter he responded confidently, "My neighbor over there thinks he's getting in, therefore I know my sinful butt is safe."
