No matter which way you take it.
'Good' criticism hurts.  As writers we have to realize that one way of  improving our  writing is by having it critiqued. For me, I prefer to have it done by my Blogit pals than to have an editor do it. So yeah, I don't mind being peed on, if it's for my good. Now I can't speak for a lamp post.....

I admit...
that i am not always comfortable with criticism...i accept it easily when it is positive criticism, i mean when sb points out my failures in order to help me improving my stuff, then it is ok...but when the person is demeaning towards me, i usually reject it.

my view-
I think the lamp post understands the inevitability of the actions of the dog, as the writer understands the inevitability of criticism. What cannot be changed is difficult to have an opinion on because we are nearly helpless...unless we practice acceptance and be the best lamp post we can be-regardless of dogs- is there a better word for critics? The bad ones, of course...

I know why they don't want to be "pee'd" on
Because they actually take the time and put in the effort to write. A critic, just, well he just criticizes!

Sorry, in as much a lamp post if it were alive would not like to be peed on

It could mean that writers do not like criticism in as much as a lamp post
if it were alive would not like criticism

quirkyalone....
That could be what it means?  Or it could mean that the lamp posts are merely disgusted by the dogs.  Maybe they feel they are vile and worthless to society... and that they only piss on them because their lives are meaningless?

Critics, A falure At The Very Thing They Critize
Yep, I do believe that's exactly what that means.
