Great poem! It sums up much of what I've been thinking. All we can try to do is the best we can given our situation. But for most, that is actually quite a lot. Thanks for stopping by and reading.

It sounds like you are living as you can, based on your circumstances. Nothing wrong with that. We own a V6 Chevy Blazer 4WD. We need it to get to our property in the winter (yes, it snows in Arizona), and during the monsoons in August. It gets great gas mileage (better than a regular truck) and I can fit in it and drive it comfortably (when you're 6'5", small trucks and even some large trucks, don't fit at all well). That's all we can ask, that we do our best given our situation.

Enlightened minds think alike
Well written subject. In simpler times, we survived on bread and cheese, fruits and vegies from our gardens in their times and occassionally meat (if we were able to afford it or butchered our own). These days grocery stores herd us through isles scientifically studied by marketeers for maximum exposure and profit. Little thought is given as to the real cost of such things. Christians who what to follow Christ should consider his words on the matter--"Therefore I say onto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than the meat and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow no, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns' yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not neither do they spin. . . Therefore, take no thought saying, what shall we eat? or, What shall we drink" or , wherewithal shall we be clothed? (FOR AFTER ALL THESE THINGS DO THE GENTILES SEEK). . ." (MATTHEW 6:25-32)
So, in reality, there are very few Followers of Christ in America, since consumerism is the number one past time.
I hope you get a chance to read my recent poem, Prosperity.
peace,
FR

living consciously and being aware of the effects of what you choose to do... that being said, I stumbled into living in a 4300 square foot home because a friend is trying to sell it and needed someone here - I pay the same rent as I would a much smaller house (but only use 1/2 or less of the home) - I also drive a SUV - but where I live I do need a 4 wheel drive - I would not have even been able to get home on more than one occassion if I didn't have one.... I bought it when I was less "conscious" in Texas - and have thought of trading it in - but it is paid for and has over 150K miles on it and I have come to the conclusion that it is better to drive it as long as I can (which could be a number of more years) since I live where I do and not wasting money on another vehicle... until 4wd hybrids become more affordable, or you can buy one used.
