Yeah, wouldn't that just stand some people on their ears. Honesty, from

George Dubya Bush, no less.  Never happen, fwmystic.  Dubya's so megalomaniacal, he beleives his own bullshit -- like any good megalomaniac should.

I would have been more impressed ...
if he said, Look, I'm only doing this because my some republicans are getting nervous about the 2006 election. I won, the troops stay, and in 2008 Iraq will be someone else's problem.

Nothing wrong with being firm and resolute, katray. Tell the young man
to stick to his guns, so to speak.  This great country of ours is made up of those who serve in the military and those who don't, neither being any more or any less American because of it.

Well said Saul
From what I've read about the speech, it was the same tired lines. Glad your family members are no longer there. It just keeps hitting closer and closer to home. My son's best friend is leaving in a couple of weeks to begin his stint in Iraq. The recruiters keep mailing packets and calling our house. Like sharks circling...My son is polite yet firm in his "no thanks" replies; I think he may have to get a bit rude.
