Good comments!

That’s just it – a “moderate” will take forever for confirmation. So will anyone who isn’t an avowed revisionist.
Scoop, I agree about her service. I doubt they’ll find another just like her, though.
Numinous, we are “blessed” with such Republican senators here in Ohio. Believe me, they are catching a lot of heat for caving to the minority party and forgetting the will of the voters who elected them.
Burly – me, overstate something? (Tongue firmly in cheek) As far as the Old Sot goes, he and the other Senatorial liberals clearly use the old Groucho Marx song “Whatever it is, I’m against it!” for guidance. (Read the lyrics at http://www.paraethos.com/occulture/horse.htm)
Good call, sarooster. I think you nailed it.

This will be brutal and I have to say I the Democrats
are in for a terrible bruising on this one. The American people are not dumb and they understand how the Democrats operate. On the other hand, I think the President should nominate someone to the right of political spectrum, but not too far right.

By the way, Teddy Kennedy has already gone on record as saying that he opposes the nomination of whomever Bush nominates. There's an open mind for you!

A little overstated...
but mostly I'd go along with what you say.

Wow, you seem to be the one who is out of touch. As far as republican senators who have come to their senses goes; it will only take a few of them to stop any nomination that goes up for a vote; there are a lot more than one of them, and the numbers grow every day.

Just because the
Dems are idiots does not make Bush smart. The reason to pick a moderate is so that it won't take forever for confirmation. The democrats have enough power to block, if not to dominate. If you don't like the process, remember that the Republicans and dixiecrats perfected the process.
