behindamask, I'm flattered, being fairly witless in real life!
I skimmed your article on tattoes for the second time, and honestly I do not know how to address people who care about that. I have never even considered, nor do I permit my children to consider getting a tattoo. My G1 (eldest child) went through a piercing phase a few years back, so I took her to the tattoo shop and had them pierce her eyebrow and insert three "bones". It had the desired effect. She stopped obsessing on tatt-ing, got a job, I bought her a cell phone, laptop and now a car, and she's decided to go to college. I'm thrilled.
So as for your "bribing children" section, I can only say that the most powerful motivator known to the AMA is positive reinforcement, which of course on ly works within a schemata of negatives. I think "training" children via classical conditioning is a lot less abhorrent than training grown-ups that way (or with operant conditioning). Because grownups have passed through the "learning curve" and to mix metaphors, the learniing window is pretty much closed. I guess that's why they use the harsh treatment to try and pry open the window again. I don't know. I'm clueless, or witless. Anyway, gotta take G12 and friends to the mall. Thanks for reading.
