Good comments! Keep 'em coming!
Kingmi, I recall that the Nazis used the Spanish revolution as a proving ground for some of their blitzkrieg tactics and weaponry, particularly bombing of civilian targets. The Franco regime that took power in the revolution was the direct beneficiary of the Nazi intervention. Ironic, no?
Scoop, good thoughts as always. I agree we need to be doing more at home, especially along our borders. But Iraq and Afghanistan are both fronts of the same war, as I'll explain further down. And if you think I’m of the mind that Bush can do no wrong, do a little digging and read what I’ve written about his mistakes concerning the border patrol.
Flightpath, thank you!
Welcome, food4thought! Most appropriate handle! Undoubtedly al Qaeda will try something else here. But I think they got a rude awakening by our response to September 11th after eight years of Clinton doing nothing more than lobbing a few missiles into Baghdad. (By the way – why don’t any of the anti-war/anti-Bush people criticize Clinton for his role in attacking Iraq?)
Welcome also, New Yorker! You make the same mistake as the great Scoop – you are identifying terrorism solely with bin Laden and/or al Qaeda. He is but one figure, albeit a prominent one, in the Islamofascist movement, and al Qaeda is but one organization, or network of organizations, in same. That is why Iraq is a key part of the war on terror. Once again: Saddam was a huge supporter of international terrorism, going back years, and - contrary to popular delusion - his regime was quite actively involved with al Qaeda.

I just have one question...
Where the hell is Bin Laden, and why hasn't he been captured yet?

I think...
Alquieda (or whatever) has mis-read the intentions of Bush and Blair. Do they want us to pound the crap out of them? Will they try the same thing in the U.S.? We had better be on our gaurd.

No one was happy by this but I will tell you what I told another blogger
I know you love Bush and he can do no wrong, but Bush missed the boat and did not get the job done in Afghanistan. By missing the boat on this he gave Al Qaida time to rebuild and now we are suffering all the consequences for the unnecessary war in Iraq.
Homeland Security and the war in Afghanistan should have been Number One on our list after 9/11, not nation building in Iraq.
We put so much effort in the airlines but we did NOTHING for our trains, subways, buses, tunnels, ports, borders, chemical plants, water treatment plants etc. And all Tom Ridge did was to come up with a stupid color code.

Writer of light, Youmade me think here. iwonder why the Spanish behaved as
they did? I mean from a National perspective. Could it be, yes Britain went through the Blitz and survived WW2, but the Spanish have only had their new country since what 1936? This is some real pdss, heh?
