- Go to Here's My New Baby Squirrel But I'm A Possible Selfish Spitfire
benzinha,
I'm so happy to hear you say that you place the nest back into the tree and watch! Many people mean well, but just immediately take the babies away not knowing the mom will most likely come back. And as far as your brother, that's too kewl!!!

spit, I'm one for placing nests back up high in trees, etc. and then
sitting and watching for a few hours, hidden to see if Mom finds it. If not, I take it back. Moms do so much better than I do with itty bitty things. The heartbreak of saving itty bitty things who can't help you in the fight. Sigh.......
My brother used to go to court as a lawyer with a tiny itty bitty kitten in a box with a furry toy to keep it warm and feed it right in court. Crazy, no? He'd find them in the bushes next to their dead mommies sometimes. Life is cruel and special and full of love ops, no?

Taps,
I know, but yeah, they can. I've raised many of them at such a young age and they release just fine. I just have to make sure they learn how to nest and forage for food. I usually release them at 6 months of age. I make sure to not let them get too domesticated, especially to become friendly with my dogs. They need to be wary of larger animals in the wild. It's a long process, but usually successful!

Spitfire, You wouldn't think something that young could live away from its real mom.

Oh, Mia!! You're so sweet!
Thank you. Actually, I know I'm really not being selfish, per se, it's just honestly really hard for me when they're that young and need to be fed every 2 hours. I can handle it at home, but at work, it's hard. I get too busy and I'm late on feedings. It really is easier with the ones I have to only feed every 4 hours.

Maybe your still sad about Stan...or don't want to get attached again to something this quickly....or maybe because you just went through this recently...but I don't think it's selfish at all...you are the best animal mommy I know. Probably the bets mommy in general or at least I that's the vibe I get from you.

Yup. Not too much drama added to the
LINDSEY situation.

The Roomba situation is under control. I think. Well, so far. I dunno. And yes, I'll tell Nick you said hi. hehe

OBP,
It's always hard to tell at such a young age. If she's strong, yeah, she'll survive as long as she gets proper care. I always make sure they are properly cared for if I'm not the one raising them. I totally trust the person I'm giving her to tomorrow.

Rach,
Yeah, I normally wouldn't pass her off, but right now, yup. I just can't commit to every 2 hour feedings. I am perfectly willing to start up again next "infant squirrel season." This season is just
not good 4 me!

Very sweet
My kids found a baby squirrel that looks similar to this one, but it was smaller. Unfortunately it didn't make it, despite our attempts at keeping it alive. A neighbor cat killed the mother while it was giving birth. I only wish that I had your experience with these cutie pies.
