JMZ, my mom and sister and I took guitar classes in Rio from a famous
man. They learned some. Mom could really play after awhile and performed in Honduran prisons back in the 60's. BUT, I loved to hear him play and could not get into guitars myself. So, I turned my classes into a personal serenade. Mom paid him to teach me and I talked him into just playing for me....wonderful. She stopped the classes after 3 months, noticing the serenades, liking them in the house, but finally, cutting me off.

That would drive me nuts
I can only assume that she lives with you, so you are like a step-mom to her. I think that your opinion does count if that is the case. I also think that you are right about making her stick to it or take the equipment back. He is raising her to have the loser attitude.

Utter bullshit. You're right. He's wrong.
However, he can make his own choices. You cannot force your advice on someone.

Hola,
What a tough situation. I am glad though, that you do voice your opinion, regardless of the outcome.

Our friend who was giving the lessons and I, myself, BOTH told J to have E borrow a guitar and NOT buy one until she was absolutely 100% certain she wanted the lessons. Oh well, huh?

But no one listens to me!

In the past, when I've tried giving J advice about raising his daughter, he's actually told me that I have no ability to give such advice since I have never had a child. What utter BS!

if they are that flaky about raising thier child...
they should have rented the equipment.
Since you are stuck with it, you should consider renting out or selling it to someone else... check to see what it is going for on Ebay.

Right on, sister. God, you hit it on that one.
I had a call from my best friend last fall telling me her son hated football and practices were gruelling, etc. My advice to her was to make him stick it out. She said this was her instinct but that she hated sitting in the cold and watching him bust his ass. I said it was good for them both!
