Usual

When I was in high school, my teacher's husband was the GM for the Orioles at the old Memorial Stadium. It was my second home as we got to work sporting events.  The Orioles from the 60s/70s are known for the type of human beings they were.  Like you said---they just loved the game.  Almost all of those guys retired from Baltimore thought they were offered lots more to go elsewere.  Jim Palmer is a good example.  These guys thought of Baltimore as home.  Boog Powell runs a french fry stand at the Ocean.

I started loosing a lot ability to care when it was all highest bidder stuff.

Oh, and the best part of the Orioles at that time---the crushed.  They shouldn't have been able to given size/speed/talent.  It has always been said that they played better as a hole than any group of indivudally magnificent players.

I think there's a life lesson in that.  They all talk teamwork, but this WAS teamwork.

JJ

You have a great way of saying things yourself.  Your comments are fun and add on to the initial thought.  That's what you want to see.  On those ones where you really don't have an answer...it's just the punt moment.

My sidekick, Mike, only reads the headlines here now.  We are used to doing the verbal volleyball thing, and I miss that.  It's nice to have someone pick up on a word or phrase and run with it.  Do you think of yourself as "Pinkie" or "the Brain."  I'm open, so I'll leave it up to you.

Terp,

I think we need new leagues for all of the sports.  Football, baseball, soccer, card sharks, volleyball, NASCAR, watermelon eaters, the works.  They all need to have a Roid Division.  Then a new wire service for the media to use: Roiders.  That way we could separate all of that shit out so that people who don't use don't have to play against those who do.  Those who aren't interested in watching cheaters play just switch to one of the other leagues or change their TV away from the channels that report from Roiders news wire.

Could you get right to work on that?  I have a back yard that needs watering, so I haven't a lot of time to spend on Roiders news.  They scare me anyway.  I once told a bunch of Roiders to ''drop dead'' and they did.  Was that the right thing to do?  I promise not to do it again.

I like your writing, Terp.  Remarkably well done.  Thanx,       JJ

What I want to know is....
Whatever happened to "for the love of the game"?  I'm a huge Cubs fan and all of this steroid sh*t is pissing me off.  Just play the game, make your millions and go home. More importantly, if you're a Cub, STOP losing! I'd like to see one World Series victory before I die.

You missed the point, Reni
I'm not speaking to the possibility...I'm talking talent.  I've seen 'roid behavior.  It should be much better.

Don't kid yourself. He did it. And now he's such a weinie that he's

accusing someone of "slipping" it to him.  What a facking joke.  Now that would be a real conspiracy in baseball--if all the allegations of players being "slipped" steroids without their knowledge ended up being true...
