Maybe the S.O.B. was just a good actor...
Ever notice how many people get choked up on camera? They don't do that in real life unless it's the day of the funeral. Thanks for telling us about this lame excuse for a judge, keep it up.

Although I can understand where you are coming from, I have to disagree with you. Sure, the person may feel guilt, but sometimes guilt isn't enough to make them change their behavior. I know this from experience. Sure, I've never killed someone because of something I did, but I have felt deep guilt. Still, guilt alone wasn't enough to make me change.
I guess the whole drunk-driving issue is close to my heart because I have have loved ones taken by drunk drivers. . . . the closest loved one being my dad (also my best friend) although in his case, he was the drunk driver who took his life.
Still, I just do not condone drunk driving in the least, and if said drunk driver takes someone's life, then they should pay as if they've committed first degree murder, for they got behind the wheel after getting drunk (an illegal act) and killed someone. Murder One. Pure and simple.
I don't necessarily believe in the death penalty, but I do think they should get more than just weekends in jail.

Respectfully, I disagree
I'd say the judge recognized that this boy was truly ashamed and sorrowed by what he had done. No amount of time will be more severe that what this boy's conscience will serve him
if he is truly sorry for what he did. I'm not a big advocate for punishing those to make them an example to others. That's pointless.
By the way, I in no way condone drinking and driving. It think that's wrong.
Nice blog, by the way.

It's easy to feel anger and indignation with this one. People who harm others because of alcohol abuse, in my opinion, should have the book thrown at them, no matter how remorseful they are. But I would not want to kill someone for the privilege of getting 52 weekends in jail. Hemlocker
