LOL. I had a little trouble envisioning what overseas meant, considering Australia's locale... It sort of left a gigantic range of possibilities, to my way of thinking!

At a glance, this looks quite fun. I appreciate too that it's written in a style that I can read speedily.
Perhaps I would try to lose , " replied and begged etc. Let the dialogue express that for itself. Don't overstate it.
But please keep in mind that I don't know anything about fiction.
