It's in my WHATEVER blog in "Religion and Spirituality".

So true...

Rid yourself of people who drain the life out of you - indeed.  I have always been a bit of a people pleaser myself.  But self-preservation must dominate over any desire to make people like us.

Sometimes we have to put up with a little crap, for example at work.  But even there, if it is bringing you down, look for a better situation.

Life is full of enough stress.  Best to avoid adding to the pile.

How's Quirkyalone,
It is so true, that it is impossible to be all things to everybody or to make everyone happy.  We can only be ourselves, for no one else can be it better.  I say, do our best at all things.  Nice post!  Catch ya later......

Just curious: What spurred you to write this? I find it interesting when people offer their views on universal life-lessons, and I always wonder what exactly brings it on. Were you or are you in a situation in which you felt you had to do something for somebody?

It's the old approval sydrome and many of us are
preconditioned from childhood.  Sadly, if we continue trying to please everybody else, we run the risk of losing ourselves in the process. Good post.

Quirky
Good post....and congratulations.  I am always reminded of the game, Twister, when I see someone trying to please everyone - I always recognize it because I mastered the game for so many years myself.  Now, I spend my time trying to just please myself....amazing how much simpler life is, and how much more rewarding.

posted by Krisles on August 14, 2005 at 1:35 PM | link to this | reply

too good!!!
All things to all?  Unattainable.  When I was shuttling kids to games, we had a saying: you're nobody till somebody loves you -- and then you're a Little League mother. Not too shabby to be something to somebody, when you think about it.  :)

posted by Julia. on August 14, 2005 at 1:26 PM | link to this | reply

I agree wholeheartedly.... focus on pleasing those that care about you

and most importantly, yourself!  The rest is just filler.  It's a good lesson to learn.

Congrats on #1.

Quirky,
one thing I've learned as a Mom is that each day I get to start fresh and try to be the best Mom I can be. Somedays it's a good thing I get to start fresh other wise I would have both kids wearing rice krispie treat clothes!
