- Go to What Makes Abortion Right Or Wrong?
Interesting piece...
...and one that brings new light to me re: control of a pregnancy.
There is, as far as I can see, only one flaw in your reasoning--and that is that, if you go by this idea alone, it would be easy to slip further down the slope to where it will be okay to put down any baby or dependent child, even after birth has taken place.
During pregnancy, the fetus IS like a special organ in the mother's body--and one that could, in some cases, be harmful (or even fatal) to her.
In a case like this, abortion should be performed at any time during the pregnancy.
But I think there comes a time in the pregnancy when--although that fetus is still a (as you put it) special organ--he/she can arrive early and instantly switch from fetus to baby.
At that stage, it should be FAR too late to allow for abortion-on-demand (that is, abortion for the simple reason of changing one's mind about wanting to carry a baby to full-term).
It might not be exactly murder, but it's still wrong and should be outlawed so that any doctor doing this could be charged with malpractice.
Anyway, you did a great job of telling with whom--and ONLY with whom--the choice should lie and why!

Legend
has it
that,
one day,
a
young man
was
walking along the beach
when
he came across
an
old man
picking up starfish
that
had
washed ashore and
tossing them
back into the ocean.
He informed the old man
that there were
thousands of starfish
along
countless miles of beach...
"Do you really
believe that
you can
save them all?" he asked.
The old man,
without a word,
bent over
and picked up
another starfish,
tossed it
out into the ocean,
and, then, responded:
"I saved this one!"
Keeping that in mind, please read this!
