lol yea..

i experience such things often through the guestbook of my website...i have a lot of nice visitors, but i can't avoid the haters...unfortunately...all i can do is delete their hateful comments...i am just wondering about some of them...if they hate Eminem and can't stand me, what the hell are they doing on my website lol ?

Mama--
It's funny that all those who commented said they wouldn't mind being corrected and yet, I've seen it too often here where people get upset about it--so I guess those bloggers didn't want to comment then! lol.

word.smith--
I'm with you on that...I'd rather be told there was an error than have it left there for everyone to see. Love that red-faced smiley!!

MsQ, while I lack your professional credentials, I still seem to have a 'gift' when it comes to the English language, and words. I, too, am bothered by poor grammar, and poorly written material in a Blog. I usually just ignore it....I've learned my lesson here on Blogit the hard way....so believe me, I'm staying out of it!! LOL!! I do have to agree with you...it distracts me, too, from what the Blogger is trying to say...

I'd appreciate being told Quirky.

I'm so neurotic that I cringe even after I take a post down and find that it had an error in there.  Blushy 4

I'm with you on that one, that WAS rude!!

Quirky...

no i wouldn't call correcting a typo "criticism"...i was just thinking about the way some ppl use their criticism the wrong way...i remember that i copied and pasted lyrics from Em's Mockingbird and there was a mistake in those copied lyrics that i hadn't noticed and then some rude person went to my website and said "you dumbass, your Mockingbird lyrics are not even correct!"

Jesus, with all the time i do spend on my articles, it is no drama if there was one mistake in the myrics i copied and pasted...i hated the way this person told it to me...she didn't notice the efforst i put in my article, analyzing Eminem's song, all she noticed was one single mistake...such ppl are so gross, rude and impolite...and i just despise such arrogant attitude...

Katray--
I think some people take it personally, like you are assaulting their character or something. I don't really understand why they get mad about it. But I've learned that email is more discreet.

Quirky..
I don't mind when someone points out my mistakes. In fact there is this Quirky person who has done that more than once and they were kind enough to give me a award.

I've had mistakes pointed out in comments

A little embarrassing, but I knew they were only being helpful. An e mail would be great and much appreciated. If it would make somebody angry, I guess they're not striving for improvement or learning. Interesting post Quirky.

Lensman--
Rushing does tend to create errors like that. My personal "cringer" is the your/you're mistake that pops up a hundred times every day on here...

NCWriter--thanks--
Anything that makes us look better can't be bad, right?

Taps--
Your comment made me laugh--because (and I fully admit this is being totally anal)...I don't think there is such a thing as a "little typo."

Quirky
Hoo, boy, I understand your proofing impulses.  I share your obsession, especially in my line.  Yet I still reread my own stuff and find things like "it's" for the possessive instead of "its," not because I don't know any better, but because I've been rushing or distracted.  If somebody were to kindly point them out to me, I would be grateful, not ticked off.  I want to put out the cleanest copy I can.

Good post Quirky...
some people are too touchy about stuff like that. You're right, if it makes us better writers, I'm all for it.

Quirky, I have pointed out an error once or twice by email but only when it made a difference in the meaning of the text.   I'm not picky about little typos.   The receivers of the emails appreciated the note and discretely fixed the post and thanked me.   I would appreciate being notified of some glaring mistake that I didn't catch.

RAD--
Yes I agree with you--it is less intrusive, and you can fix the error without everyone else being made aware of it.

I would rather someone email me about an error than having it there for
everyone to see, heh.

Well I'll put you on my list of those who don't mind--some people get so mad I usually just try not to look at the carnage in their posts...lol.

Quirky-girl

hey, i was very grateful when you pointed out mine and went immediately to correct it. I re-read several times before positing, and make oddles of corrections (even in comments) but still put things up with errors as my hands are so bad that correcting them all is laborious and things slip by, so i am counting on you out there reading to point them out for me.

well in that case, in yesterday's blog post there was a doozy of a mistake...you wrote...

(just kidding)...

I appreciate when people point out my errors also... if nothing else, it
shows me that they really read what I wrote.  I consider it a compliment.

me look smarter! lol

ISA--
I agree, rude and disrespectful are never called for--but do you really see pointing out a typo as criticism?? That's interesting, because this could explain why some people don't like to be told of their mistakes.

CarolynMoe--
I know, I don't really undestand why some people get so bent out of shape about it. How can you be mad when you were just made to look better??

MW--
Yes, they gave me the idea to do that, too...every once in awhile when I can't stand to see a glaring mistake, I have pointed it out in comments. Emailing I think, might be better received.

posted by Julia. on August 29, 2005 at 8:57 AM | link to this | reply

it is true that nobody is perfect...

i accept criticism as long as the person isn't rude or disrespectful towards me...

writing is rewriting... we should be glad for those who chose to point out our errors.  I'm with you.

Quirky
While I can edit others work, I am horrible about my own.  I know what I meant to write and sometime miss the most obvious things!  That was nice that someone pointed it out nicely.
