Quirky, people always act like they hate to be lied to,
but they really like it sometimes. Misrepresentation has become an American way of life, along with predatory lending and all you can eat buffets.  It's scary.  Your post was cute. I do realize my comment was way too serious but I'm in a serious mood today.  Seriously.  Do they have a club out there for dry humorists by chance?

Quirky,

OMG!! thanks.. as we  know it is more about the "Whats in it for me" syndrome. We stoop to the BS to get the click. It's no different with the headlines of the Newpaper, gossip colums or tabloids. GO girl. I will cheer for you, shoot for the top! j.

Why not let anyone post whatever they want! It's more democratic that way!

But of course I want to fit in with the rest of my blogging buddies!

So if there is a majority that wants to do away with posts and headlines about blogging, I guess I'll just have to sign that "covenant"!

There is nothing like fitting in!

I guess I did not completely get the "tongue-in-cheek" thing, but what does it matter?  I agree that ariala probably earns the money she makes here and the popularity she is accorded, because she often provides good advice and good resources.  Nevertheless, many of her posts, and certainly her headlines, are "tongue-in-cheek."  I admit that Blogit is many things to many people, and I don't advocate that we all go around down in the mouth of moral integrity and obeisance to the gods of serious literature.  Nevertheless, I must admit that I get miffed reading the fifty or sixty "comments" that come with some of these tongue in cheek posts.  I've been seriously considering selling out and joining the fun--and the money.  Cheers.  Hemlocker

I used to write about blogging

for a while after I joined. I'm a quick learner and it helped bring attention to my blog.  I don't do that now unless, I definitely have something to day - whatever that may be, I dunno.  - or I am making reference to another blogger for providing inspiration.

For those who are interested in getting more readers, the best bit of advice I got here was from one of  Kay-Ren's post. She said that the way to get and retain readership is to write regularly, write well and write interestingly and I gotta say that works!

Can you imagine...
If everyone wrote some kind of blogging post on here talking about some other blogger or their opinions.....Chaos and anger would reign supreme! Food fights would start in cafeterias all over the world! The sky would fall!  It would be the end of everything as we know it!        Yeah..I'll pass.   :)

hmmmm ....about bloggers huh
may just give it a whirl...  been contemplating it anyhow.... would that mean i'd sold out.... or would it be like caving to the almighty click? hmmm... rubbing chin while i sit at my computer in the dark room, too early in the morning, not having had coffee yet...

Justsouno/Quirky

You said this is a community of bloggers and alluded to that's why it works/is done.  If you read the many, many posts from people around here, you'll hear the word "writer" thrown out there as often as blogger.  I'll go along with the people here being bloggers, so if that's the community, and everyone wants to gossips, great.  I choose not to participate.

BTW, what drew ME to this headline was Timmy's name.  I don't answer blogger things just because they don't interest me.  I'm a writer. It's my occupation.  This is a side thing.  My in person life has enough drama to last a lifetime without worrying about the catfights here.

I guess it's like the Rick Nelson Garden Party thing...if blogging (memories) are all I sing, I'd rather drive a bus.  It's a waste of my time.  Yes, I'll get the ratings, but it's not why I came here.

Quirky, having seen you go through stuff here before being misunderstood, I'm starting to get come to the same conclusion that you have---people aren't getting the tongue and cheek thing with you for whatever reason.

MayB has a good point.  People like to read about themselves, but they also like to read, see, hear the dirt on everyone else, too.  We're all rubber-neckers here, when you get right down to it.  It's human nature.  And it's what makes some bloggers' posts far more attractive than others', in spite of the shallow, negative, agressive, narcissistic, and sometimes vindictive nature of them.  You can make pacts and endorse groupthinking or reason until you're blue in the face to fight the types of (blogger) behavior you don't like.  But these kinds of things also bring loads of attention upon what you are trying to modify, thereby doing yourself and others a disservice, to certain extent.  I think the best weapon simply is to not feed the fire.  Go your own way, do your own thing, and make a pact with yourself regarding whether or not you will write or read posts about other bloggers.  Our greatest weakness might be passion for the click, but the click is also our greatest weapon.  I know, quirky, you meant to be tongue-in-cheek, but this stuff has been sitting inside me for the last week, and I had to let it out.

Quirky,

Your not funny comment near the end got me.  I was just thinking that very thing about my last post.  Was I too subtle?  Did I overestimate, underestimate, or just miss the barn with the shotgun?  Was I just too dumb?  Or What?

Bloggers' pact on blogging about bloggers?  Why the groupthink?  Is it like A.A. and the 12-step wagon waltz?  A pact is too much groupthink for me.  A bit too bloggerishy.  If you can't do it on your own, you can't do it at all.  Pacts are for playgrounds where kids have no self-discipline.  Will an anti-masturbation clause be added later?  Maybe something about language, homosexuality, flirtation, love in the blog heaps?  Where does vigilante justice stop?

No thanks from me.
Groupthink has long been an enemy of mine.

Quirky...
You know my opinion about blogging about bloggers: to me, it is a pure waste of time unless you have a point to prove regarding one of their posts...

hemlocker--
I think you took this post way more seriously than it was intended. I meant this to be tongue in cheek. If all I really cared about were clicks, then I'd be writing about bloggers and blogging a lot more than I do. I use it primarily as a diversion...just look back at some of my other content and you will see that I too care about writing and about many things that have nothing to do with "the game." Thanks for reading.

quirky--
You've been one of the people I admire here, but this click-mania...?  I don't know what to think.  You must know by now that if I played the game as tenaciously as you and Ariala do, I could at least make a little more money.  But I won't.  Maybe I just can't.  It doesn't make me a better person, and certainly not a better person than you.  I came to Blogit in the hope of getting the challenge and stimulation to jumpstart my writing, which has been in hibernation for years.  I feel that I've benefitted genuinely from being here and from the opportunity to be exposed to so many great people--if not great writers.  I've gotten some fair numbers (just behind you and Ariala now in Opinion) mostly simply by doing what I came here to do, although I must admit, I have coveted those readers and commentors who have been attracted to my blog.  I think the competition, i.e., the spur others provide to help me do better, is very worthwhile; but the game of hoarding clicks, and all the inane piles of comments they attract, is not a positive dynamic in my most humble opinion.  Thanks.  Hemlocker

it isn't a comfortable position to be writing only so that one gets more
clicks, but it's still the reality that blogs get driven by clicks

I have to say blogger posts and commenting on them are my least favorite but sometimes it is hard to stand back and watch some of the crap. I think Scriber and others may be onto something. If the fires were not fueled well then they might just flicker out. If it can work for a significant number on dist-lists it can work on this ..except that people love reading about themselves (not me)

I'm not alone...
I'm Lisa C., a Blogaholic...I thought it was the newness of this that has led to an intervention from family and friends. I can't log-off BlogIt...watching the counter go up brings a rush. The family is beginning to check for centers dealing with this addiction, but I'm still in complete denial.

I have to admit though at this point, I can't imagine my clicks going to those numbers, but feel the depression set in when my number declines, and was estatic the first time I saw I hit the daily Top 100.

For the moment I'll stay in denial, but I guess that explains my numbers.
