I guess I am guilty of leaving quick comments. I try to read as many

post as I can in a day. So sometimes my comments are simple. I admit

I don't leave comments for two reason. One I just really did not like it.

Or two Sometimes someone has said exactly what I wanted to on the

comments already. So I don't respond.

I like knowing that the reader relates to what I've written.

Some comments do inspire future posts as well.

I appreciate all response Quirky
Poetic comments, those expressing positive criticism or in depth descriptions of the reader's reaction are so wonderful, fuzzy warm and helpful, but I understand the realities of time constraints and issues of fairness to every writer who moves us. I do tend to leave longish, deeper comments much of the time, but there have been and will be times when I can't spare the extra minutes. Then I use emoticons/short gushes instead. For my blogs, some acknowledgement is always appreciated; even if it's or and no words.

I'm with Ariala on this one-
I like them all! But too many invisible ones make me start to wonder if I am getting too boring and I am even more insecure if it's followed by sinking ranking... And, of course I would leave you a crab emoticon or something, but I am not at home and am limited to the blogit emoticons.

"Great Post!" generally irritates me a bit because anyone could just have copied and pasted it without looking at the blog.

I always leave a comment unless
I am interrupted by my husband or kids while in the middle of posting and end up forgetting where I was, who I was reading, etc. Sometimes, my daughter will ask me for chocolate milk for ten minutes straight. By the time I get up, get her the chocolate milk and talk with her about whatever she wants to talk about, I don't even remember what I was doing. I'm not complaining, because these are good distractions. Take care

Cicks, invisible or not, are great in every way. Leaving a comment is good, especially if you're a newcomer to someone's blog, so that blogger knows they have a new reader. Comments of appreciation, or comments that offer suggestions of betterment or otherwise are also nice. But I think commenting is best done and appreciated in moderation. That way, it relieves the pressure on both the commentor and the comment receiver... Just my opinion...

I like emoticons (obviously) I think they add personality to an otherwise "flat" page..Schree`

Hi Quirky
I'm responsible for some quiet clicks. Sometimes I have something say immediately (like now ), but other times I prefer to come back later and comment. Other times I click away and don't click back. But I'd say about 80 percent of the time I leave a comment because I enjoy the community aspect of Blogiteering.

I think we all like comments.. but I read some people and have no comment to leave, there are those that read me and leave no comments too. I guess it works both ways.

Quirky..
I do like to get comments.. I want to know if people are into what my post is about or if its just me who likes it and I should stop trying to bore everyone with that topic. Also.. I am thankful to anyone who reads my posts.

Everyone loves feedback,
especially me. But at the end of the day, the click is the thing that rakes in well over seventeen cents a day for me.

Personally, I enjoy the banter in the comments section most of all. It's fun.

Quirkyalone
I'm one of the biggest stealth clickers. I read much, but comment little. Why? A comment, even in this environment, isn't mandatory. The writer writes, I click and read. That's the extent of our obligations to each other. A comment is icing on the cake, going above and beyond the call of duty. Some posts are worth it. Some are not. Some posts strike me at the moment to add something of my own. Others, even if I enjoyed it, do not. Besides, all most bloggers want to hear is how great and brilliant and wonderful they are. Say anything else and you're in for a fight. If someone won't hear the truth, there's no point in giving it.

Quirky,
I love the comments, but I don't mind the invisable clicks...at least they came by...I am happy for that :)

Hi Quirks!
I usually only leave a comment if I think I have something relevant to add to the "conversation". If I don't, but I really enjoyed the post, I'll leave a quick comment (or emoticon) just to let the writer know that I stopped by. I sometimes tend to leave long comments, especially on the opinion blogs, and end up editing myself by deleting entirely the novel I've written! Anyway, what's your opinion, Quirky? Do you prefer for folks to let you know they stopped by?

posted by Georgia on September 4, 2005 at 6:53 PM | link to this | reply

I appreciate relevant comments but am comfortable with whatever my reader is comfortable with. I try to leave comments always, except in those cases where a blog is inflamatory or confrontational and I don't want to add to the flames or participate in the war... or maybe start one! One can gain much knowledge by being an observer instead of a participant ;o). Let's face it, we all want to be read or we'd be writing in private! LOL I think we all come to blogit with a certain amount of ego... some more than others. I'm babbling! Good post. Thanks! Sandi

Preferences?
I'm anti-emoticon - it's all about the words.
And I'd much rather see a relevant comment than a generic "great post."

Speaking of comments, thanks for visiting me, and my dogs are both chihuahua mixes, though one is mixed with more than just one other thing. They are called Zorro and Cleo.

Quirks,
I try to comment almost every time I read. Sometimes, though, I am in a hurry and just want to read as much as time allows. But I usually try to comment. I don't mind invisible clicks, but we all appreciate a comment.

Quirky,

It depends on the individual I'm reading at the time. And, what kind of mood I'm in. When it comes to my own stuff, well, I prefer a positive comment compared to being slammed or just don't even comment if you can't conduct yourself in a at least non-degrading tone. Shadow

i try to comment on everything i read, but sometimes i can't think of anything positive to say. so, instead of starting a disagreement, i just leave it.

I'd always rather something over no comment at all... but there have
been times I haven't commented just because I didn't feel like talking. It's not always because of what I read. Know what I'm sayin'?

Novelists meet their readers at signings, at literary festivals, through review sites. Sometimes readers don't have time to comment. They dash in and out. Some readers never comment but they might recommend the book or blog.

Everything need not be remarked upon. As a writer we want feedback but in reality we wait to hear. Always we wait. This mirrors life.

If we have nothing to say that's what we should say ....
