A most thought provoking post. The views of an honest broker is most often the most accurate of all. I believe what you are witnessing is a revolution. The United States has been essentially ruled by a liberal idology for a half century or more. Since the conservitives gained control of the House of Representatives, the revolution has begun in earnest. The fight is bitter, passionate, and will continue for as long as the United States exists. The Constitution was designed to allow for that revolution to take place every two years without a shot being fired, verbal shots yes, but we haven't witnessed war in the streests since the riots of the sixties and early seventies.

It is interesting that you understand the danger of radical Islam, and many of our citizens don't. The danger, as I see it, is multi-culturism. It promots a divided society to a point, there isn't a defined American culture, only pockets of cultures, each with their own agenda. And that, if anything, will be our downfall. Our founding fathers understood the danger even as they created the very document that allows the seeds of our downfall to develope. The United States won't be the first world power to lose a moral base and crumble from within.

Good post, ariel70, enjoyed the read

Thank you for your comment.

Of course, the term " Americans" is misleading, but how else can one describe what one sees as majority - or even a significant ninority - opnion? it's shorhand term, and of course, I don't lump all Americans in the same basket.

And I do hope you're right about America and Americans getting their act together.

I have always had enormous respect for you Americans, and it grieves me to see your country so divided

This a well-written perception, though not necessarily accurate.  It is almost impossible to talk about "Americans" because we are such a pluralistic society--something which irks right-wing ulta-conservatives no end.  We have been led since 1999 by an incompetent administration founded in cronyism and payback to influential friends, with cynical political goals based strictly on power, all the lies notwithstanding.  The United States is a seriously divided country right now, but yes, all of us are still Americans.  It will take more hard work, but hopefully the pendulum will swing back and we will do what really needs to be done for the betterment of the planet.  Hemlocker
