surely you jest?? If a person is that dumb, to drive with a shade in place which obscures 99.99% of their vision...then they should not be allowed to have a license.

quirky-girl

you're going to laugh but i can remember lying in bed at night as a kid being afraid that somehow that dumb tag on my mattress was going to come off and "under penalty of law" I would be hauled off to jail....it traumatized me i think:-) ...i'm serious!

Quirky...
No, I wasn't kidding.  There are people that make their living looking for ways to sue other people.  There was a guy in my town for example that would wait outside of bars late at night and wait for a nice car to leave, then he would drive his own car into their car.  If the people had been drinking they were usually happy to pay him off on the spot rather than let the police sort it out.   People like that.

Qurikyalone,
Are these really warnings or reminders? It may seem usless to you. But to the person who thinks it is a good idea to keep the sun out of his car while driving the reminder helps!

Remove the tag
I does make sense to read but some people are led to believe that the tags are unremovable. More power to you to bring this to light.

posted by Aria4 on September 11, 2005 at 7:36 AM | link to this | reply

the really scary thing is that warnings are usually put on an item BECAUSE

some idiot sued them for that very reason.  I always like the one on hairdryers that say "do not use this item while in the shower."  Now that's fighting a losing battle isn't it?  Drying your hair while it keeps getting wet?

There are a lot of amusing warning labels out there, like the Palmolive one that says, "Warning, do not use on food," or the kid's Superman costume label, "Wearing of this suit does not enable you to fly," or the Sears hairdryer, "Do not use while sleeping," etc.   Somebody did all those things....

posted by Lensman on September 10, 2005 at 8:18 PM | link to this | reply

You're right, Quirkyalone.
On the other hand, the real sensible warnings from people are not considered warnings. There were so many who in a way warned that we were creating situations wherein Tsunami would be at our door. But did we pay heed?

Unfortunately we have those in society that DO NEED those idiotic warnings. A co-worker was telling me a story of a guy buying an RV, they explained cruise control as if it meant auto-pilot...the guy crashed his RV, sued and won, because he left the area to get something to eat. I know, I'd never succeed in law, because Common Sense doesn't always work in that arena. My Business Law teacher hated me, because of it. Sad but true...

When I was a kid, those bedding tags said: "WARNING.  Do Not Remove on Penalty of Law."  That really scared me.  Sometimes, when I felt a little rebellious, I'd lie on my bed, fingering the tag on the pillow as if I would rip it off--but I never dared to follow through.  I felt the same about God then until one day I looked up and said I don't believe in you, so strike me down with lightning, Dude!  (Well, it probably was more like "man" then, not dude); but when the lightning didn't come, that was a turning point in my life.  Today they say don't remove unless you are the consumer, which makes more sense; but some warnings are still as idiotic as ever.  Still, I have to think some are idiotic because some idiot actually did what the idiotic warning is telling you not to do.  Gosh I hate it when I call people idiots!  Hemlocker
