Alice's Restaurant, huh?
I'll have to check that out. Is it a real place?

P.S.
I'm currently working on a piece called Alice's Restaurant about a special place that was (like Cheers) where everybody knows you name and are glad you came!

Wouldn't it just be Murphy's Law in action...
...if my place got flooded/burned/blown away/whatever, and all of my slender pictures got destroyed while all of my fat ones stayed intact! LOL
Seriously, I personally understand how inanimate objects take on a life of their own because of the memories attached to them.
My prayers join yours in hoping that you'll get the items that were auctioned off back again--or, at least, learn where they went to and get to know the happiness and memories of the people they have brought to people who now have them!
Hugs!

Legend
has it
that,
one day,
a
young man
was
walking along the beach
when
he came across
an
old man
picking up starfish
that
had
washed ashore and
tossing them
back into the ocean.
He informed the old man
that there were
thousands of starfish
along
countless miles of beach...
"Do you really
believe that
you can
save them all?" he asked.
The old man,
without a word,
bent over
and picked up
another starfish,
tossed it
out into the ocean,
and, then, responded:
"I saved this one!"
Keeping that in mind, please read this!
